When music is downloaded onto an iPod or other MP3 device, the music is “compressed” so more data can be stored. The lower the number of the bit rate (designated as “kbps”), the higher the compression. The more the music is compressed, the more it loses its sound quality. The default download rate within iTunes is 128 kbps. Also, when you download from the iTunes website, the compression is 128 kbps and cannot be changed. HOWEVER, when you download CD’s, you can adjust the bit rate (compression amount). We STRONGLY recommend that you download at the 320 kbps and it is VERY EASY to do. Here is how: Open iTunes. Go to Edit >Preferences> Advanced> Importing > Setting (drop down menu)> Custom> Stereo Bit Rate (drop down menu)> 320 kpbs. Click OK and download as usual. Enjoy Great Sound! |
